Unlike the Governors-General of many other Commonwealth Realms, the Governor-General of the Solomons is appointed by the monarch on the advice of Parliament to a five-year term.
Though the office holds considerable reserve powers, it's largely a symbolic figurehead position with little day-to-day involvement in government.
The current Governor General is the Right Honourable Sir Nathaniel Waena.
Prior to the establishment of the office, the islands were governed by a Governor and the Executive Council.
